Programma

DONDERDAG 29 AUGUSTUS

  • 9.00-10.00: ONTBIJT
  • 10.00-11.00: Plenaire opening
  • 11.30-13.00:
    • Adbusting
  • Advertising - it’s everywhere. But should we accept consumerist, sexist, climate-damaging corporate propaganda in our public space? Adbusters (also known as subvertisers) think we should not. This workshop will quickly give an overview of the history of direct activism against advertising and the practicalities of this tactic, before we dive into the creative part! Think: repurposing ads to undermine their or push our own message with paint, markers, collage, whatever you feel like really. No prior knowledge or skills needed, just bring your creativity.
    • Diversity of Tactics
  • A workshop surrounding the historical context of tactics within activism and what that reveals about activism today. We will investigate what these tactics can teach us within the context of dutch climate activism.
  • 13.00 - 14.30: LUNCH
  • 14.30-16.00: *
    • Event Disruption
  • From crashing oil conferences to challenging corrupt politicians, disrupting events and high-profile speakers is an exciting way of drawing attention to your campaign and directly challenging those in power. This workshop, run by grassroots action group Climate Resistance, will discuss how to use event disruptions strategically, and give you a chance to practice disrupting in a safe - and hopefully quite fun! - environment.
    • Inflatables Workshop
  • Wanna blow up a pipeline? Then come to our workshop, where we'll be learning to make giant inflatable pipelines, and you'll be seeing all new uses for leaf blowers, construction materials, and plastic bottles for orange juice. We've been making inflatable pipelines with the Artivist Network (https://www.instagram.com/artivistnet/) for quite a while now, we learned the technique from a local artist who works with inflatable sculptures, Bambi (https://www.instagram.com/bambi_van_balen/). They're a neat tool for actions and protest – super light, fitting in a medium sized IKEA bag, and inflating up to even 10 meters; they're easy to sneak around with and can provide a great visual counterpart against the presence of police or when you wanna make a big visual impact.
  • 16.30 - 18.00:
    • Intersectionality
  • A talk about what materials are being extracted from the global south and thus exploiting it and different countries and companies in the global north who are supplying weapons to the IDF (Israeli Defence Force) and the RSF (Rapid Support Force) highlighting genocides in Sudan and Palestine. After that, a workshop about intersectionality in activism, looking at different parts of your identity and who we are representing and how to amplify voices, instead of speaking for them. In the third part there is space to look at ourselves as activists, including a guided meditation and space for discussion about how we look after ourselves and how to recognise signs of burnout.

VRIJDAG 30 AUGUSTUS

  • 9.00-10.00: BREAKFAST/ONTBIJT
  • 10.00-11.00: Plenary/Plenaire sessie
  • 11.30-13.00:
    • Congo Rainforest
  • We are a group of white and non-white people, based in the Democratic Republic Congo (DRC) and Europe, who are getting active about the situation in the DRC. We specifically focus our work on the Congo Basin, where oil and gas is being exploited. Part of the Congo Basin is the second largest carbon sink in the world, the Congo rain forest. This rain forest will be destroyed. Besides this, in the DRC many other exploitations are ongoing and war is threatening people.
    • Liquified gas 101 & Building transatlantic bridges of solidarity and success
  • This workshop consists of two parts. First, we will learn what liquified gas (called LNG by the fossil fuel industry) actually is and why it is a problem for people, climate and nature. In the second half, we will learn from successful transatlantic resistance against fracked gas exports and imports, while fighting for human rights and against environmental racism. Powerful personal stories and transboundary collaboration along very concrete supply chains make the difference, and give us hope in our joint fight.
    • Draaiboek van Extreemrechts
  • 13.00 - 14.30: LUNCH
  • 14.30-16.00:
    • Disobedient Art School
  • An unmissable activity at a Disobedient Art School would undoubtedly be banner painting. Banners have long been a part of civil disobedience movements and have a rich tradition in art as well. Bring your ideas, and we’ll provide the materials. Let your message stand out from the crowd.
    • (Trans)national mobilisation
  • 16.30 - 18.00:
    • Corporate power, militarization & couter insurgency
  • The workshop will be participatory exercise in deepening the climate movement's knowledge and discourse on energy imperialism. We will explore imperialism at large and how it operates through global energy markets. Then there will be three interactive sections: Corporate power, militarisation and genocide in Gaza, Counter-insurgency: understanding the boom in police and private repression in the face of genocide and climate crisis, Hydrogen and neocolonialism in Namibia and beyond. We will conclude with a participatory session on applying these learnings to our own organising and campaigning.
    • Liquified gas financing & how to stop it
  • In this workshop, we will delve into the financiers behind the LNG projects supplying Europe, particularly from the US Gulf Coast. We'll begin by explaining what LNG is and then explore the banks involved in financing these projects. In the second part, we'll discuss strategies and tactics for finance campaigning. If you're outraged by banks continuing to fund the fossil fuel industry, this workshop is for you. Join us to learn more and get inspired to take action.
    • Stopping extractivism
  • D4C: In this presentation we will introduce the ‘Debt for Climate’ campaign. We want to collectively understand what debt cancellation for the Global South has to do with the climate crisis, but also with neo-colonial power structures. We will have a closer look at neo-colonialism and debt, how they are connected and on how debt fosters the extraction of LNG using the examples of Mozambique and Argentina. Lastly, we will look at the Debt for Climate campaign and show how you can get involved. / NBC: Update and overview No Border Camp 2024
  • 18.00 - 19.30: DINNER & Your Local Pirates
  • 20.00 - 21.00: ACTION & LEGAL BRIEFING

ZATERDAG 31 AUGUSTUS

  • 9.00-10.00: BREAKFAST & Grounding exercises
  • --> Making lunch to take in the action
  • 10.00: LEAVING FOR ACTION
  • 11.30-13.00:
    • Beware of the Hydrogren Bubble
  • This storytelling workshop invites participants to become hydrogen molecules in their journey from global south bodies of water to the imagined "green hydrogen" ports of Rotterdam and Amsterdam. Staying close to hydrogen’s relationships to land, water, minerals, food and power we uncover not-so-green situations that require care-full responses. What to do from our own positions in Northwestern Europe about the 'hydrogen economy' future that risks (re)locking energy and food systems into corporate and (neo)colonial control? May this journey be a seedbed for future learning and interventions that hold space for climate justice and food sovereignty.
  • 13.00 - 14.30: LUNCH
  • 14.30-16.00:
    • The story of us
  • During this workshop, we will work on the story of us. How can you get others excited to join you? Sandra Ball, co-founder of the Lowlander Project, training institute for organizing, takes us through the steps. There is time for practice and coaching. You'll learn to tell your story in such a way that others become excited, outraged, and hopeful that your action makes sense!
  • 16.30 - 18.00:
    • Making analogue memes
  • While memes make people laugh, they also can make a point with just an image and a few words. The meme templates we have been using are tried and tested, but are maybe also outdated and sometimes reinforce racist stereotypes. So, time to get creative! We will be making analogue memes by repurposing old magazines.

ZONDAG 1 SEPTEMBER

  • 9.00-10.00: BREAKFAST
  • 10.00-11.00: Plenaire sessie
  • 11.30-13.00:
    • Recovery & Debrief
  • How do we build resilience in our movements against practices that shrink the democratic space? This workshop is based on mapping what repressions we are seeing, learning about international trends and exploring together how we can support each other and strengthen our activism without a law degree.
    • Anti-Repression in Practice
  • How do we build resilience in our movements against practices that shrink the democratic space? This workshop is based on mapping what repressions we are seeing, learning about international trends and exploring together how we can support each other and strengthen our activism without a law degree.
    • Countering Master SuppressionTechniques
  • Master Suppression Techniques are ways in which patriarchy reinforces itself in everyday situations. We will discuss different kinds of master suppression techniques and what feminists have done to counteract them, especially in organising situations.
  • 13.00 - 14.30: LUNCH
  • 14.30-16.00:
    • Refugee sea routes, search & Rescue
  • This talk will focus on refugee routes through the Central Mediterranean Sea. How political choices force people on the move into life threatening situations and the work of civilian search and rescue operations.
    • How to organize an action
    • Regenerative activism
  • Burn-out, toxic cultures and internalised structures of oppression are common in activist spaces. If we are fighting to dismantle oppressive structures, shouldn’t we also not treat ourselves as resources to be extracted until depletion? In this workshop, we will work on preventing burn-out on both an individual as well as a collective level, and complement this with regenerative exercises. No prior knowledge needed, just an open mind and something to write with. Feel very free to bring or do anything that helps you be present (knitting, doodling, stretching, etc.).
  • 16.30 - 18.00:
    • Recognize extreme right symbols
  • Due to the political climate, self confidence on the far-right is growing and they are moving onto the streets. To protect ourselves and our communities, it’s important to be able to recognise its physical appearance and distinguish between different currents. During this introductory meeting, we will discuss the most important properties of the far-right in the Netherlands, both in appearance and ideologies, to prepare activists for the time to come.
    • Cirlce of Hope
  • We share what gives us hope - essentially the opposite of a climate anxiety workshop, because sometimes we really need to hear that some things are going well too! :)
    • Next Steps Geef Tegengas
  • 18.00 - 19.30: DINNER
  • 20.00 - 21.00: Closing Plenary
